Dragon Dance
CYSM has produced one of the most sophisticated dragon dancing teams in Australia, performing with a gold coloured 15 section dragon and three multi-coloured 9 section dragons.
The busiest time of year for dragon dancing is of course during the Chinese New Year celebrations. The CYSM has performed at a wide range of different venues including the Melbourne Town Hall and Melbourne Concert Hall for community and charitable events as well as performing at corporate functions when requested. Since 1997, the CYSM Dragon Dancing Team performs at Melbourne's Crown Casino during Chinese New Year alongside the Hung Gar Yau Shu Martial Arts School (HGYS). The highlight of every year is performing at the Chinese New Year festival in Chinatown. Performances vary from simple parade walks to set stage routines with many different formations. In 2010, we launched our newest trick dubbed 'The Helicopter', where the Dragon appears to swing like a helicopter in mid-air.
