History

In 1968, four young men, Roland Chan, Ricky Lau, Peter Louey and Henry Chiu, took the initiative to establish the first chinese cultural society for chinese youth in Melbourne and during the chinese new year led a lion dancing team which performed in Melbourne's Chinatown with one lion. In 2003, the CYSM celebrates its 35 year anniversary and is very proud of its many achievements throughout its colourful history.

Today the CYSM is involved in a vast array of activities including a lion dancing team capable of performing with over 9 lions at the one time, a dragon dancing team, a chinese folk dance troupe, a dragon boat racing team, a soccer league and team, and annually conducts a high-profile Community Quest for young chinese women. It remains the only broad-based chinese community society for youth in Melbourne.
